We hope that you enjoyed playing in the league as much as we had administrating it. There will be a handful of changes for next season with regards to a couple of meetings in advance to hear out all the captains and go over rule changes, etc. Again, we hope you enjoyed the year and highly anticipate everyone returning next year. Good luck to all the teams that are still in the playoffs.

Playoffs (Posted June 05, 2009)
The Playoff Brackets can be found by clicking on PLAYOFF BRACKETS on the left hand side menu. There were two ties for seeding in the Mens Division and the seeding has been determined via the Tie-Breaking scenarios in the RULES section of the website. There are three Womens teams who have solidified their playoff seeding which can also be found in the PLAYOFF BRACKETS section. The schedule for next week has been posted. Please check for date, time and location of all games.

Playoff Brackets (Posted June 03, 2009)
We will be updating the schedule and Playoff Brackets after Thursday nights game have been completed. Please check the website this weekend for the brackets and schedule for next weeks playoff games. All Preliminaries and First Round games must be completed by next week for the Mens Division.

Playoffs and Eligibility (Posted May 11, 2009)
Please be advised that playoff eligibility is 6 games for the Mens Division and 5 games for the Womens Division. Also, all teams in the Womens division will make the playoffs. The Mens division will have the top 10 teams make the playoffs since there are 15 teams in the league. The number of playoff teams has been predetermined before the season started. The number of teams making the playoffs varies depending on how many teams are participating in the league. You can view these ranges in our rules section and they will stay consistent throughout the years.

Be Courteous (Posted April 30, 2009)
To all participants. If you are scheduled to play the first game of the evening, please be courteous to the team that is playing after you. After shaking hands, please remove your stuff from the bench area immediately so that the following team can get to the bench area. There are several areas in all gymnasiums to move to so that you can cool down and watch the next game if you like. The same courtesy should be given by the team that is waiting to play the second game. Please do not run out onto the court during time outs and intermissions to shoot around. Captains, please help with maintaining this request.

Some Rules And Clarifications (Posted April 16, 2009)
We would like to clarify some league rules that some participants have shown some confusion during the first part of the season.
1) The clock does NOT stop after a made basket. If there is 6 seconds left in the game and the losing team scores a basket, the clock does not stop to wait for the ball to be in bounded. A timeout must be called in order to stop the clock.
2) Five fouls on a player leads to a disqualification. Only the NBA and WNBA have 6 fouls as a disqualification. It is a bit surprising that people still ask this question.
3) Only players that are on the roster can participate in a game with the exception of the Fifth Player Rule. If a team is having difficulty to field a team, they may ask a non-roster player to play for that game and that game only. If this situation arises, the team captain must contact one of the league directors to get approval for this addition. Please also note that this participant cannot be on any other roster.
4) Lastly, the league directors cannot entertain questions and issues from all participants. If you have a question or concern, please notify your team captain and they may address the League Directors. Most of the time, they can answer your question. We cannot respond to every email and/or phone call from all of our participants.
We hope that you are all enjoying the league as we enter our sixth season.

Entire Schedule Posted (Posted April 14, 2009)
The entire schedule for the rest of the season has been posted. Please be advised that the last regular season game for the Mens division will be played on Thursday June 4th. This means that the playoffs for the Mens division will start on Tue June 9th. The regular season for the Womens division will finish a week later on Thursday June 11th and the playoffs will start the following week on Tuesday June 16th. Good luck to all.

No Games During Holy Week (Posted April 06, 2009)
Please be advised that there will be no games scheduled during Holy Week (4/14-4/16). We wish everyone a Healthy and Happy Pascha.

Condolences to Panagakos Family (Posted March 26, 2009)
The GOMBL sends its condolences to the entire Panagakos family for the passing of Angelo Panagakos. Mr Panagakos is the father of lifetime Holy Cross Brooklyn coach, Jimmy Panagakos who has not only been a staple in his own community but also a pillar of the MGOBL and a great supporter of the GOMBL. We wish Jimmy and his entire family our deepest sympathies during this difficult time. Services will be held at McLaughlin Funeral Home in Bay Ridge of Brooklyn on Saturday (3/28) from 7-9pm and on Sunday (3/29) from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

Season Start (Posted March 16, 2009)
Please be advised that we have targeted to start the season next Tuesday on March 24th. Please make sure to make your players aware of this start date and be prepared to play next week.

Commitment to Women's Division (Posted February 11, 2009)
As part of our commitment to expand the Womens division, we are creating a Free Agent list. If you would like to play in the league but are unable to find a team, please send us your name, contact information and experience level. We will create a list and get you in contact with other players in order to form a team. Please send an email to George Plevritis at GPlevritis@gombl.com. Send us your information and we will keep you informed as to what we have put together.

2009 GOMBL Season (Posted February 04, 2009)
We would like to welcome back everyone for another season of GOMBL. We have already sent out emails to last years captains regarding deadlines, rosters and fees. We have set the deadline for February 14th for both rosters and payment. We would like to start the league in the first week of March depending on cooperation from all teams. Please send us an email if you are interested in participating. The Mens division is on a limited basis. If you are looking to put in a Womens division, we strongly welcome you. If you have a roster, please send it to us and we will reply with payment instructions. Again, the faster we get this information, the quicker we can actually start the league. Games will only be played on Tue-Thu. Each team will need to give us two days, one of which they prefer to play their games and a second in which we can schedule games if their conflicts with their opponent. We hope to have a smooth start to the league and welcome any suggestions you may have. You can view teams that have already submitted rosters by going into the STANDINGS section of the website.

Congratulations and Thank You (Posted June 18, 2008)

We wish the best of luck to all teams involved.

Playoffs Schedule Posted (Posted May 30, 2008)
The playoffs schedule has been posted. The Women's Championship will be played on Thursday June 5th in Astoria. Note: The Women's Championship has been moved to Tuesday June 16th.

Simple Rules Clarification (Posted May 29, 2008)
Please be advised that the clock does NOT stop on a made basket regardless as to how much time is left in the game. Also, we would also like to clarify that 5 fouls leads to a disqualification not 6. This is not the NBA. We still get asked this question during games.

Section 3 Rule 1 Clarification (Posted May 01, 2008)
We wanted to clarify the above rule when it comes to a participant playing that is not on the roster. Here is the rule below:

Rule 1- Each team captain must submit a roster form with each player's name and jersey size. No other player will be allowed to play unless they are on the roster. If a team has an emergency, they may request that a fifth player, who is not on the roster, to play in order not to forfeit. Such request must be made to a league official and approved by such.

In the above situation, the fifth player cannot be on anyone else's roster.

Playoff Brackets (Posted April 30, 2008)
Please be advised that ALL teams in the Women's Division will make the playoffs. Seeds 1 and 2 will receive a first round bye. Seed 3 will play against 6 and Seed 4 will play against 5. In the Men's division, 10 teams will make the playoffs. Seeds 7, 8, 9, and 10 will play a preliminary round (7 vs 10/8 vs 9). Playoff brackets can be found under the PLAYOFF BRACKETS section in the menu on the left hand side of the website. Playoff tie-breakers will be determined in the following fashion:

1) Head-to-Head
2) Divisional Record (Only if there is more than one division)
2) Record against common opponents
3) Quality of Wins
4) Record against teams already in playoffs
5) Record over the second half of the season (Has to be greater than or equal to 50% of the season)
6) Some random procedure

Playoff Eligibility (Posted April 08, 2008)
Please be reminded that players need to make 6 games in the Men's division and 4 games in the Women's division to be playoff eligible. No one, who has not met the requirements, will be allowed to participate in the playoff tournament. Each team will be reviewed as the season winds down. We will not notify teams as to who is not playoff eligible until after the season concludes.

No Games During Holy Week (Posted April 04, 2008)
Please be advised that there will be NO games scheduled during Holy Week. Holy Week starts on Sunday April 20th (Palm Sunday) through Sunday April 27th (Easter Sunday). The league will resume play on Tuesday April 29th.

Rules and Goals (Posted March 28, 2008)
Please review the information placed in the RULES and GOALS sections of the website. Only team captains can address League Officials about such rules. We cannot entertain each individual player inquiry about our RULES and GOALS.

New Website, Next Two Weeks (Posted March 25, 2008)
We have launched a new website for easier navigation. We have also posted the next two weeks of the schedule and will add more shortly thereafter. Please be advised that the Wednesday games for the next two weeks have not been determined as to where the games will be played. We should have this information shortly.

Week 1 Posted (Posted March 06, 2008)
We are happy to say that the first week of games have been posted. We understand that several teams have expressed concern with having the schedule weeks in advance and we are working very diligently in doing so. We please ask, due to GOYA season not being over yet, that you are a bit patient with next week's schedule as we finish up confirming gymnasiums for the following week. We look to have up the following week's schedule up by the end of the week and then the entire schedule should be posted shortly after. Again, we are listening to your concerns as we are here to serve the participants of our league.
